Panoramic imagery is an art with history. Already in the 19th
century panoramic painting became a mass medium with especially built
rotundas in order to make the 360 degree experience accessible.
Panoramic photography has replaced the painted surround pictures towards the
end of the 19th century. Meanwhile digital photography is another huge step forward.
Now a photographic panorama can be created with so-called stitching software
with affordable, compact digital cameras and several overlapping frames.
Panoramic photography can be displayed both as a print
on photo paper, duratrans transparency or also virtually on computer screen and
via internet. The panorama has become interactive by hyperlinks, sounds, zooming
and scrolling.
